Penhill & Leabank Towers, Luton
Gwalia Surveyors was requested to provide several surveying services for cladding works at Penhill and Leabank residential tower blocks in Luton. The purpose of the survey works was to supply accurate information on both 14 storey towers. Accuracy was key to this project as the cladding modules were to be fabricated off-site to very high tolerances.
Survey control was established for both towers using total stations performing a closed loop traverse. Based on this control we deployed a Trimble SX10 laser scanner to capture data on all elevations on both towers. This data was used to create a point cloud from which accurate elevation drawings were generated. We were then tasked with creating horizontal and vertical gridlines essential for setting out cladding modules physically on site. The gridlines were generated from the elevation drawings and were translated and marked out on site on all elevations on both towers. Additional verticality sections were produced for both towers based on the point cloud. This information provided vertical checks enabling adjustment of cladding modules.
