Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, Newport
Gwalia Surveyors was commissioned by Dimension Data to produce an accurate measured survey of the track at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales. This was in preparation for an attempt at the world 24-hour distance record by a cyclist. The survey was to enable the installation of cutting edge real-time data and tracking technology at the velodrome in order to monitor the record attempt.
The survey was performed using a combination of laser scanners and total stations which created a highly accurate controlled point cloud of the track. This data allowed the production of drawings to precisely coordinate the installation of the real-time tracking technology.
Unfortunately the record attempt was unsuccessful, however, a lasting legacy with one of the world's most digitally connected velodromes has been created.
